Where do we begin? ShiftyTV has once again been called out for cheating in a tournament, only this time things got very real, very quickly for him.
Following the 2v2 COED tournament hosted by Sami (aka Mrsknowitall) a huge uproar occurred about the inclusion of ShiftyTV and the subsequent payment of his 1st place prize. If you follow the Warzone competitive scene you will already know that this is not the first time, there have been accusations of cheating surrounding ShiftyTV. Former CDL pro, Blazzt has called him out regarding several suspicious clips from his gameplay over the last few weeks, most notably during a $15,000 Warzone tournament.
Following this initial callout, Blazt has posted several clips that seem to show unnatural tracking of enemies by ShiftyTV. Much of the vocal Warzone community seem to be in agreeance with Blazt, however there is a small minority of people who either don’t believe that there is anything suspicious or who don’t believe that there is enough evidence to call him out on.
Following one clip posted by Blazt, 100 Thieves content creator, Tommey replied on twitter to point out that the clip was missing frames. This issue with the missing frames was perhaps a reprieve for ShiftyTV, giving him the reasonable doubt that was needed to allow him to continue entering tournaments and wagers, winning money from other Warzone players.
Following last night’s tournament, some of the entrants began to demand that they be refunded their entry fee due to the inclusion of a cheater, while others asked for the tournament to be replayed without ShiftyTV and his partner. Sami, the tournament host posted on twitter that she was unsure what to do in response to this furore before eventually agreeing to pay Shifty and his duo partner their winnings while stating that ShiftyTV will no longer be able to compete in any tournaments that she organises.
After the tirade of accusations against him following his tournament win, ShiftyTV apparently downloaded an independent anticheat software called FaceIt. The software states that it detects client-side cheats, which if it works as it says means that anyone running it would not be able to have any cheating software running.
Shifty played a few games with this anticheat software running and there was a huge contrast in his ability to hit shots in the games he played, prompting a video from Scummn which showed poor aim in several gunfights from Shifty.
The reaction to this is clearly a move in the right direction with regards to excluding cheaters from tournaments, but it is noticeable that while everyone is happy to share their opinion on Shifty cheating, there is still nothing but the sound of silence when it comes to other, much more popular creators who have very similar suspicious moments in abundance.
As far as FaceIt anticheat software goes, it is not clear whether it does work with Warzone. Shifty would surely have ensured that no malicious software was running when he decided to use the anticheat, so without seeing it detect any cheats we cannot be sure that it is a reliable tool to use as a way to verify a players legitimacy, but if it can be shown to be effective then surely it should be a requirement for all PC players to visibly use it in all tournaments or wager matches going forward, and furthermore, ALL popular Warzone streamers who have denied cheating while having multiple suspicious clips of their gameplay questioned should openly use it for ALL gameplay!
