MODERN WARFARE 2 & WARZONE 2 WILL USE RICOCHET...

A new Call of Duty game is coming, and as well as anticipation of the new title, an undercurrent of worry is prominent in the fanbase. With the unprecedented levels of cheating in Call of Duty titles since MW 2019, and in Warzone, it is no surprise that many are praying that Activision can finally combat the problem in a meaningful way.

Many, myself included, had been hoping for an all new, industry leading anti-cheat system might accompany the new game, but sadly that has been confirmed not to be the case.

Ricochet was released alongside Warzone pacific, a kernel level anti-cheat software that was designed and implemented to rid Warzone and Vanguard of the cheating problem that has become synonymous with the franchise. Sadly, we can conclude after many months of full implementation of the software that it has done very little to combat the issue. Cheaters are still very prevalent in Warzone, causing the game to become almost unplayable at times, which you can see in this YouTube video freom Westie.

Whether Ricochet was ever equipped to work is a matter for much debate. Some theorise that it was nothing more than a marketing tactic to sell Vanguard on the back of some of the worst PR backlash the company had ever seen regarding the number of cheaters in the game. Others believe that the issue lies with internal leaks from Activision, more specifically, source code being leaked to cheat providers, allowing them to bypass any security that is integrated in the game.

If the latter is true, and by some miracle Activision manage to plug the leak, it may just be possible that Ricochet will work as an effective Anti-cheat in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, but I for one will not be holding my breath.
