Through information provided to us by an anonymous source, it appears that a new segment has been added into the Warzone source code. Adding new code and changing or fixing existing code is part of the ongoing effort of any game developer to improve the game, balance the mechanics, fix bugs and a host of other improvements. So, what makes this new segment of code so special?
It seems, in an update due to go live in the coming days, that Ricochet anti-cheat will be able to detect camos, weapons and operators on accounts that have not purchased or unlocked them through the store or in game challenges.
If the player’s data shows that they have not completed the required challenges for each gun to unlock Atomic Camo for instance, their account will be forwarded to Ricochet and a permaban will be put in force.
(Warzone code designed to detect fraudulent ownership of in game items.)
According to our source, prior to this, the developers had only implemented a tool to reset a loadout if it didn’t pass their checks, they are taking things one step further now and will be enforcing permanent bans on people who have cheated the system to unlock in game items fraudulently.
This is a big deal for Activision. With Warzone being a free to play game, the revenue it generates comes predominantly from in game purchases. If a player is found to be obtaining items only available by purchasing them in the in-game store by fraudulent means it can be a serious matter in both a legal sense and in respect to the integrity of the company. It is not fair for one person to acquire something for free while others are paying money for it.
While this new approach deals exclusively with in game content, it could be a step in the right direction for Ricochet anti cheat, which of late seems to be more active in its job of ridding Warzone of cheaters.
After a slow start, there is a feeling of promise that the anti-cheat may be starting to provide results, however with cheat developers often one step ahead of the game devs, the jury is still out on whether Ricochet can ever be completely successful.
