No one in the hacker hunter scene has been as “under the gun” as headband of late. Fending off attacks from Yildiz and Rage Against My Machine that have evolved from simple “hackusations” to personal attacks over the course of the last few days.
The furore surrounding Headdband was refuelled recently when Rage Against My Machine claimed that headband had looked to either 2D radar or wallhacks to gain knowledge of an enemy he had no way of knowing was there.
RAMM goes on to explain that if you listen to the audio of one of Headdband’s live streams, you cant hear any footsteps to indicate there is an enemy beyond the door Headdband is about to burst through.
Headdband certainly knows there is someone there as he bursts through with speed and already turning ready to shoot then enemy who is approaching. But how does he know?
RAMM is certainly correct. In the footage he put out in his video drawing attention to this, there is no audio for any footsteps, which would lead most to believe that Headdband must have had a visual indicator to show the enemy location, but with no market on the UAV how is this possible?
It turns out that something was amiss in RAMM’s footage, in fact an awful lot was amiss, instead of there being no footstep audio, there was in fact no audio at all in this key snippet, and Headdband showed his own footage (which is directly from his YouTube live stream) proving that there was in fact footstep audio and ambient audio which was missing completely from RAMM’s clip.
Far from being the end of the argument, RAMM doubled down by claiming that Headdband had added audio in afterwards to avoid being detected for using wallhacks.
As a video editor myself, and a YouTube content creator, I am fully aware that it is possible to add in audio after recording and it is quite easy. The first way this can be done is by adding the audio to your editing timeline in premier pro or Sony Vegas (or whichever editing software you use.
To do this however Headdband would have had to download the original video, and then reupload it. This would leave a very clear indication that something wasn’t right, as the video would no longer show as a live stream and would show as an upload with a different date or time to the live stream, so we can safely say this is not the case.
The second way in which Headdband could have added footsteps in, is by using YouTube editor. This is a post upload editor which allows you to trim your videos, take audio out, and most importantly in this case, add audio in, such as music or sound effects.
BadBoyBeaman showed in his video on the subject that there are in fact footstep sound effects that could have been added into Headdband’s video, but rather than stopping here, BBB showed that not only could they be added, but if they had been, there would be a clear indicator to show there was an added sound clip (as you can see by the little grey box under the sound waves in this image)
Headdband, thankful to BadBoyBeaman for suggesting this route of showing how he could clear his name posted a video showing him going to the timestamp of te incident in question, zooming in on his audio timeline in YouTube editor and clearly showing that there was no added sound. Having proved he had added nothing, he played the video through to show that the footstep sound was still actually there, proving, at least on this occasion that he is innocent of the clip manipulation that is being claimed.
Does this mean that RAMM is guilty of clip manipulation? I would say yes on the balance of probabilities, though there may potentially be a reasonable explanation for why this was in fact a mistake rather than a clip manipulated in malice with the intention of taking down Headdband’s credibility through deceptive means.
While disproving one accusation doesn’t disprove all those that have gone before, it doesn’t do any harm to Headdband, and could quite possibly be a big blow to the credibility of Rage Against My Machine, who has seemed to become very malicious and very personal in his approach to dealing with Headdband.
